Michigan has not yet enacted a comprehensive consumer privacy law, so you do not have a state-level right to demand deletion. You are not without options: almost every major data broker operates nationally and honours opt-out requests from any state, and several federal rights apply regardless of where you live.

How to get removed without a state law
The absence of a state law changes the leverage, not the outcome. Most of this still works.
- 01Use each broker's own opt-out flowNearly every major people-search site offers a nationwide opt-out regardless of your state, because it is cheaper for them than sorting requests by geography. We publish step-by-step instructions for each one.
- 02Invoke California anyway, where honestly applicableMany brokers operate a single national deletion process built to satisfy California. You should not misrepresent where you live — but you can ask whether their process is applied nationally, and it frequently is.
- 03Use your federal rightsThe Fair Credit Reporting Act applies in every state. If a company is a consumer reporting agency, you can demand your file and dispute inaccuracies with a 30-day deadline, no state law needed.
- 04Use Google's removal toolsGoogle will remove search results that expose your home address, phone number, email or government ID numbers. This does not delete the source page but it cuts off how people actually find it.
- 05Re-check in 90 daysBrokers re-list you every 3–6 months. Without a re-check, a removal is temporary.
Automatic set-aside: unlimited misdemeanours carrying under 93 days at 7 years; up to four misdemeanours carrying more than 93 days at 7 years.
Important: automatic relief does not notify you, and it does not notify the background-check companies. People are sealed and never told, and keep failing background checks anyway.
